Itinerary:
DAY 01
ISLAMABAD:
After arriving to the
capital city you will be transferred to hotel.
By afternoon, after lunch, we will start our
sightseeing tour of Islamabad Rawalpindi with a
visit to the old Bazaar of Rawalpindi, the Raja
Bazaar (King Bazaar), after that we will proceed
towards the capital city of Pakistan a modern
and well planed city which mostly resembles with
the ancient city of Taxila of Gandaran
Civilization. Overnight stay in hotel.
DAY 02
ISLAMABAD – CHILAS:
Early in the morning we
start our journey towards Chilas, the home of
Nanga Parbat also known as the Killer Mountain
in the world. About 12-13 hours drive takes us
along the Lion River (Indus River) with
panoramic views of lash green valleys up to
Besham. We meet Indus River at Thakot half an
hour before the Besham. From here the Rocky
Mountains starts and the road is built in the
carved rocks, that’s why today the Karakoram
Highway is known is “Eighth Wonder of the
World”. This is a living miracle of Pak-Chinese
engineers. The Karakoram Highway is not only a
miraculous engineered road in the huge rocks of
but also reflects the signs of a Great
Friendship between Pakistan and China. If we
make it on time we will also have the
opportunity to visit the rock carvings at
Shatial. The legends say, these have been carved
by the Pilgrims, Travelers and Traders on their
way to and out of China.
DAY 03 CHILAS
– KARIMABAD:
The third day of our tour
starts with a visit to rock carving at Chilas
across the bridge to the other side of the Indus
River. Another fantastic drama is Nanga Parbat’s
play with us “hide and seek game”, but we have a
very clear and breathtaking view at Thalaichi,
here is the place where we see the “Unique Place
in the World.” What makes this place Unique is,
three world’s highest ranges Karakoram, Himalaya
and Hindu Kush meet at this place. The Nanga
Parbat was first climbed by Hermann Buhl, a
great mountaineer from Austria who lost his life
at Chogolisa.
Another one and half an
hour takes to reach the Gilgit for our lunch,
after lunch we proceed further towards north to
legendry Hunza Valley. On the way you will have
a beautiful view of Rakaposho Peak 7788 meters
high. A short break at the footstep of Rakaposhi
Peak is spectacular.
DAY 04 KARIMABAD – GILGIT:
We drive onwards to Gilgit
Valley, the administrative town of Northern
Areas. It has been used by pilgrims and traders
in ancient times on their way to Arabian Sea. At
Gilgit there is an old carving of Buddha in
Kargah Nalla which is carved beautifully to pay
their faithfulness to Lord Buddha. It also homes
to the largest Suspension bridge of Asia which
connects one Bank of Hunza River to the other
making a room for one jeep to cross to enter
into Daynor Valley.
DAY 05 GILGIT
– TARASHING:
Drive by Jeeps to Astore
Valley and proceed to Tarashing. We leave the
Karakoram Highway at Juglot and turn left on to
a Jeep track, which leads to Tarashing. Drive up
to Tarashing is very exciting as we travel along
the Astore River. Through the narrow valleys
arrive at Tarashing and setup the camp for
overnight at the height of 3300mts.
DAY 06
TARASHING:
Starting the trek to the
moraines of Tarashing Glacier and turn right to
enter the valley. Walking up the valley we will
have beautiful views of Chongra Peak (6824mts).
The landscape is lush green as we come to the
end of the valley, where the shepherds have
their huts. After lunch near the huts back to
Tarashing for an overnight stay at the height
3300mts.
DAY 07
TARASHING - BASE CAMP NANGA PARBAT:
After breakfast we start
our trek to Nanga Parbat Base Camp, walking up
the valley we cross Tarashing Glacier and arrive
at the lush green meadows with Rupal Face of
Nanga Parbat offering a beautiful view and
arrive at the base Camp. From here we can have
magnificent view and also see the most difficult
route to the top of the Killer Mount Nanga
Parbat, which was climbed by Reinhold Messsner
from Italy. Setup the camp for overnight stay at
the Base Camp of Nanga Parbat.
DAY 08 NANGA
PARBAT BASE CAMP – SHAI GIRI:
Start over Trek ahead to
Shai Giri. After Crossing the Bazin Glacier, we
arrive at the lush green traditional base Camp
of Nanga Parbat, Rupal Face. It is a very
beautiful place with crystal streams following
through green meadows, where a lot of cattle,
goats and Zhows (A kind of Yak) graze. Here we
will stop for a short while at the graveyard of
Mountaineers who died while attempting to climb
the famous Peak of Nanga Parbat. After paying
our respects, we continue on through a mountain
stream, arrive at Shai Giri, which is the Camp.
Set up the camp for overnight stay. This place
offers magnificent views of Nanga Parbat on one
side and Laila Peak on the other besides
numerous other peaks.
DAY 09 SHAI
GIRI – MAZENO BASE CAMP:
After breakfast head
towards following Goat Trail and the path
follows northern moraines of Thoshe Glacier,
which views back to Laila Peak and Rupal peaks
on one side and Nanga Parbat on the other side.
The Camp in a green meadow at about 4200mts with
a bubbling stream and dried Jennifer bushes
looks down on Thoshe Glacier 20 kms long and two
kilometers wide, that fills the whole head on
the valley. Setup the camp for overnight stay.
DAY 10 MAZENO
BASE CAMP – MAZENO HIGH CAMP:
4-6 hrs trek to Mazeno high
Camp, The trek turns north and climb steadily up
to the lateral moraines of the Mazeno Glacier,
which descends gently from Mazeno Pass. The
surrounding Mountains are capped with gleaming
fields of snow. Camp at 4700mts on a flat, stony
site with steams about five kilometers before
the Pass.
DAY
11 MAZENO HIGH CAMP – UPPER LOIBA:
Across
Mazeno Pass to Upper Loiba 7-8 hrs trek, the
climb up is not difficult, though the altitude
is 5,377mts. The other side is a steep drop of
about 300 mts (requiring rope and Crampons) down
the difficult Loiba Glacier which is white for a
short way then there are covered the Gravel and
Rocks, camp at upper Loiba at about 4200mts.
DAY 12 UPPER LOIBA – LOIBA MEADOWS:
After breakfast trek to
Loiba Meadows, 4-5hrs trek is a lovely easy
descend to birch wood and lush green meadows
with shepherds' settlements and herds of Sheep
and Goats. From here we can look South up the
Airi Glacier, camp at about 4000mts.
DAY 13 LOIBA
MEADOWS – KACHEL PASS:
4-5hrs trek to Kachel, a
lovely trek down through willow pine and birch
woods with view of Nanga Parbat. Then cross the
River and East up through pastureland and some
fields of Potatoes and Barely to Kachel is
isolated settlement at the foot of Kachel below
3000 mts and the pass is about 4400 mts, Camp at
Kachel Pass for overnight stay.
DAY 14 KACHEL
PASS – ZANGLE:
After breakfast trek to
Zangle, Start early to climb steep ridge
immediately behind the shepherd’s huts while it
is still in the shade. The path zigzags for two
hours to ridge up the another 01 hrs to the top
of the barren bleak hill, with the Petero River,
George below on the right flow a flat trail a
long the West side of the Patero valley through
at barren landscape. Further one-hour trek to
the first wooded area, around the village of
Zangle. We will see small spring just below the
path before, the first houses, the first water
since we left the river of Indus, camp near at
the Zangle for meals and overnight stay.
DAY 15 ZANGAL
– LOWER KHUSTO:
5-6 hrs to the Lower
Khusto, following the Patero Valley, crossing
several side streams and walking through pine
forest and past villages with fields of barely
maize, and vegetables. After 4 hrs we will come
out of the forest into summer pastures with
magnificent views of Ganelo Peak straight ahead.
Pass another Shepherd’s Settlement and climb
another steep slope to arrive the Lower Khusto,
a high pasture stream and an ideal campsite at
about 3500 Mts. Rest to acclimatize is
recommended here. We can have magnificent 2-3hrs
walk carpeted with flowers up to the terminal
moraine of Patero Glacier, where we will setup
the camp for overnight stay.
DAY 16 LOWER KHUSTO- JILLIPUR:
6 Hrs trek to Jillipur Base
Camp. Impressive waterfalls to above the tree
line, keeping the water fall on the right. There
are fantastic flowers in early August. Pass to
the settlement of Shepherds, which every one is
cheerful and friendly. A Picnic and swim at over
4000mts. Continue up a small stream for two more
hours to a high bowl surrounded by the
snow-covered peaks with no obvious exit. Setup
the camp on about 4400mts, where it is very cold
at night, even in the month of August. Catch the
magnificent views of Ganalo Peak (6608 Mts.)
DAY 17 ACROSS
THE JILLIPUR PASS (4837MTS) – BIAL CAMP:
5-6 Hrs to Jillipur Pass is
not obvious between North and South Jillipur
Peaks, so we need a guide to point out the right
place to head for. The 1st one or two hours is
steep and dangerous climb over boulders, then up
more steep over smaller lose rocks to a big
snowfield on the Pass. From the top there is a
view of the whole Nanga Parbat Group. Descend in
a steep and slippery on moving rocks for one
hours. Continuing on the grassy pasture and
stream, which leads you down pass willow shrubs
and birch woods to the bottom of the Raikot
Valley. It is a very steep 3-4 hrs from the top
of the Pass to Bial (Old Camp of the Fairy
Meadows) about 3500 meters. But Bial is less
crowded. It is only one-hour walkup to the top
of a Cliff, which offers fantastic view down on
to the Raikot Glacier. The Glacier flows down
from the Nanga Parbat, which is framed like a V,
carefully as we come through trees very suddenly
to the edge of the cliff. Overnight stay in
tent.
DAY 18 BIAL
CAMP – NANGA PARBAT BASE CAMP:
Three Hours to Nanga Parbat
Base Camp, this is very enjoyable walk the tree
covered Raikot valley along a clear path. Some
of its through pastures with view of Raikot
Peak. Slide steeply down the lateral moraine to
the glacier on obvious path and cross small
glacier coming from the right. A clear trek goes
up steep slope to a flat meadows, full of
marmots, flowers and surrounding an enormous
rock to old base camp. Overnight stay in Tents.
DAY 19 NANGA
PARBAT – FAIRY MEADOWS:
Trek down to Bial Camp and
continue down to long & clear path to the Fairy
Meadows with superb views behind us all the way.
The Fairy Meadows is a big clearing that used to
b e surrounded by a thick forest. It was perhaps
the most magical and scenic of all Pakistan’s
beauty Spot's, but is fast being spoiled. Camp
anywhere on the meadows about 3200mts.
DAY 20 FAIRY
MEADOWS – TATU – KARAKORAM HIGHWAY:
After breakfast descend
down to Tato, and then board on the Jeeps down
to Karakurum Highway to Chilas. Transfer to
hotel for overnight stay.
DAY 21 CHILAS
– ISLAMABAD:
After breakfast drive to
Islamabad, transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
DAY 22
ISLAMABAD: TRANSFER TO AIRPORT FOR A HOMEBOUND
FLIGHT.
